About Shawn Venne
Clinical Counselling Hypnotherapist, EFT Practitioner, and Perpetual Seeker of Joy and Hapiness.
I am a Registered Clinical Hypnotherapist with the Association of Registered Clinical Hypnotherapist and a trained EFT practitioner.
I received my hypnotherapy and counselling training from the Cross Roads Training Institute. My training in EFT was with Andy Bryce, EFT Master and student of EFT founder Gary Craig. I also have extensive training in Buddhist Psychology and other areas of eastern and western psychological thinking.
I use my experience and understanding of the human psyche combined with EFT and hypnosis to explore client’s emotional/psychological/physical issues that are causing a disruption in theirs lives, whether subtle or intense. I use EFT to release the energetic disruptions and use hypnosis to work with the client to instill positive empowering beliefs and ideas. My intention is for clients to leave each session with a new lightness, clarity, vision and sense of empowerment , having released the heavy burden of limiting beliefs, unskillful habits and/or past traumas.
Currently my focus is primarily in working with people whose journey has brought them to a place where they realize that they want more from life.
Another major focus in my work with individuals is to assist them to bring their awareness fully into the NOW. Often I am asked "What does it mean to live in the NOW? How can we not live in the NOW?"
My answer is usually something like this: Our bodies are always in the now, but not our minds. Our minds are usually either dwelling in the past or projecting into the future. There can be very little peace and happiness when we are not living in the present. When we dwell in the past we are either: remembering how unhappy we were and feel unhappy now, or we are remembering a time that was better than what we are currently feeling and we feel unhappy with where we are at. Alternatively when we project into the future we either create a negative scenario based on our past experience and feel unhappy in the now or we create some ideal scenario of happiness in the future and we feel unhappy with where we are at right now.
When we bring our awareness into the moment, the NOW, we are only dealing with WHAT IS and WHAT IS is often nowhere near as painful or unbearable as what we had imagined it would be. When coming from the NOW our decisions and choices are also closer to our true desires as they are not so heavily influenced by the past or the future.
A large part of my education in this area is influenced by the work of Eckhart Tolle (“The Power of Now” & “Even the Sun Will Die”) and Byron Katie (“Loving What Is”) and of course the teaching of Buddha. You can find more information on these and authors please see my Resources page.
I truly believe that as a therapist I should be continually exploring new aspects of growth and healing. Not only to offer to the people I work with but also, perhaps more importantly to expand and explore my growth as a human being. For I do not believe I can accompany my clients where I myself have not already gone. It may not always have the same appearance. For example I work a lot with people, mainly women, working on weightloss. Although I do not have a weight issue I know what it is to crave something and to have my mind one minute tell me to not do something and then to tell me to do it. It has all been part of my journey and continues to be.
Currently I am studying the Sedona Method. First (and continually) as part of my personal process and now taking the steps to become trained in coaching individuals in using the method. I find that it is a very elegant method in releasing our negative beliefs and ideas and discovering our true nature.
Additionally part of my path as a therapist is that I am continuing to master the art of the delivery of EFT and hypnosis. He is also very excited about the continual discovery of new applications of both hypnosis and EFT, from psychological barriers, physical pains, and addictions, to chronic diseases. One of the aspects of EFT that I am very excited about is that the clients leave the sessions knowing how to apply EFT on themselves. They have a tool for life that can be used whenever they are experiencing negative emotions, stress, or physical pain.
What all this work is really about for me is enhancing our relationships with all our fellow beings, especially the people closest to us. Almost everything we do, we do in relationship with someone else. If we can go into those relationships with a lot less baggage and a lot more clarity and openness every interaction can be a golden opportunity to see the divine in each other.
